Meridian Automobile Tragedy Claims Two Lives
A terrible automobile crash near Meridian claimed two lives and injured several others. Glynn Arvin, manager of the Meridian Telephone Company, and Mrs. Kimo Wi, wife of the Farmers' State Bank president, were killed. White Waldrop and Mrs. Darrell Grantham, sister-in-law to Waldrop, were among the injured when the car struck a large oak tree north of the courthouse shortly after 2 am Sunday on the way back from a visit to Waco. Mrs. Grantham is reported in critical condition with multiple injuries. Funeral services for Mr. Combest were held at Meridian, with burial in Gatesville. Mrs. Waldrop’s services followed Tuesday morning at a local cemetery. Mr. Combest, formerly of Moody, survived by his wife, mother, sister Ann Combest, and three brothers including A. B. Combest of Moody and George Combest of Austin. Mrs. Waldrop, former Clifton resident, was highly regarded by friends.
