The Lane Star Young Farmers club held a Christmas banquet at Chancla Behind's Cafe in Harton Center. Gold Key members attended including Dahl, J C Oswald, Milton Dahl, Elmer Kruse, Daniel Torgenson, and J L Gerlatt. Miss Aleene Vickrey daughter of Mr and Mrs J P Vickrey of Meos wed Mr Von M Gilmore son of Mr and Mrs W Gilmore of Turnersville in a ceremony Sunday evening December 22 at 7 o'clock at the First Methodist Church of Mosheim. Smilax and white gladiol bouquets decorated the altar. Rav Willass officiated. Miss Minnie Fix Hugh of Valley Mills played piano. The bride wore silver blue wool crepe cashem with sink rimming and Devon accessories and carried ferns and white exotics. She wore her grandmother’s ring as something old. The groom and guests testified to a traditional ceremony.
Friends from Bosque and neighboring counties joined Ross Barry at his ranch between Walnut Springs and Iredell to honor his 91st birthday. Guests arrived from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. enjoyed coffee and cake, with two large decorated cakes and a candlelit scene. Barry, longtime cattleman, remains active on his ranch and fond of horseback riding, joking about his age and eyesight.
Bosque County hosts a Birthday Ball at Meridian High School Gym January 6 with Steve Gardner and his Austin orchestra to raise funds for infantile paralysis. Tickets go on sale in communities. 50 percent stay in Bosque County for local treatment and 50 percent sent to National Head Quarters. committee chaired by W. H. Curtin with Mary Beth Wints Fay Young Joe Sheppard among organizers.
Clifton FFA Chapter enters the Texas Baby Chick Association Poultry Improvement Contest with 21 members aiming to raise over 3000 chicks. Prizes total 150 dollars for top three chapters, with 100 for first, 30 for second, 20 for third, based on points from projects, chick quality, liveability, production, and pest control.
Mrs Geo Oswald a Clifton area pioneer died Saturday January 11 1941 at the family home near Clifton Texas after a brief illness. She was born Sarah Jane Harper 1867 in Dawson Georgia and married Geo Oswald December 28 1896 in McGregor Texas. Survived by husband a daughter Mrs Lewis Hauke two grandchildren Bobby Lewis Martha Sue Hauke plus her sister's children Carroll Imperi and Mrs Arthur L Ammons.
