Farmers and Ranchers Must Pay Self-Employment Tax in 1965
Walter H. Hill of the Internal Revenue Service in Waco explains the 5.4 percent self-employment tax for 1965. The tax applies to net earnings from farming or ranching and may require filing even if no income tax is owed. Farmers with earnings under 400 dollars may elect to pay the tax under certain conditions and could qualify for Social Security benefits. A free Farmer’s Tax Guide is available from IRS or agricultural agents. Mrs. Walter May of Houston visited Clifton last weekend with relatives.
