Clifton Fire Department Elects Officers for 1913
At a Clifton fire department meeting held Wednesday officers were elected for the year. W. S. Mixon was named President and H. W. Hering Chief. C. R. Ball and M. N. Grigiland as assistant chiefs. L. Tennison became Fire Marshal with F. W. Nelson as Sec-Treas. Trustees appointed were C. C. Westley Harold Hill and Ed Hauke. The group discussed purchasing a motor fire truck and appointed a committee to review makes and report next meeting. The new truck would carry 4 hook and ladder, chemicals, and hose. This would improve protection and could lower insurance rates.

Governor Colquitt appointed R M Johnston of Harris County to fill the Texas seat in the United States Senate for the term ending March 4. Johnston, aged about 62, is longtime Houston Post editor and former Texas National Committeeman, known for loyalty to the party and active newspaper work.
