Window broken at Central Texas Lumber Co.
Clifton police report a brick shattered a window at Central Texas Lumber Company 201 East 5th Street with no entry or theft found. An adult male was arrested Thursday on driving while intoxicated and jailed in Meridian on a $1000 bond. A Sunday collision at Highway 6 and Hackberry damaged two vehicles lightly and moderately without injuries.

Two Injured In Pickup Crash East Of Valley Mills
A 1973 pickup overturned on Farm Market Road 56 ten miles east of Valley Mills on New Year’s Day injuring two men. Driver Michael R. Herzog and passenger I. Ricky Benfer were treated at Goodall-Witcher Hospital. Herzog suffered back injury, a broken collarbone, and bruises. Benfer had a head injury and broken shoulder blade and was sent to Hillcrest Hospital, Waco. Texas DPS Troopers Gerald Baker and Acey Steel investigated and commended the ambulance crew.

Grass fires fought here by Clifton volunteers
Four grass fires drew Clifton Volunteer Fire Department crews this past week. A Dec 27 blaze near the old Meridian Highway by the municipal airport burned 15 minutes. Dec 29 saw a truck battle a grass fire toward Valley Mills for an hour near the railroad tracks. A Dec 31 effort at N P Powell Ranch lasted two hours. Firefighters also worked 45 minutes at the Erich Prescher property Friday.

Hog Creek Watershed bids opened January 24
The Soil Conservation Service advertises bids to build the first floodwater retarding structure in the Hog Creek Watershed Project. Public bid opening is at 2 p.m. January 24 at the Texas Soil Conservation Office in Temple. The project covers 58,460 acres across Hamilton Coryell Bosque and McLennan counties with multiple structures and channel work planned.
