Mr and Mrs Jacob E Wilson of 1115 West 9th Street Clifton were honored on their 50th wedding anniversary with a Dec 20 open house at their home. Family and friends joined from 2 to 5 PM as well wishers praised the couple and their 50 years of marriage.

Hiram Smith dies in Bosque County aged 63

Hiram Smith of Smith Bend Bosque County aged 63 years 11 months and 12 days died December 25 in Clifton hospital. He was a WWI veteran, farmer, bus driver for Clifton Public Schools, and longtime resident with a large family including two sons and two daughters. Funeral services were held December 27 at Clifton Funeral Home Chapel with Father August Merkel officiating.

Arden M Olson Services Held Here

Funeral services for Arden M Olson 58 10 20 of Brownsville were held at Clifton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Joel E Nelson and were followed by an interment in Clifton Cemetery. Olson a former Clifton resident died from a heart attack December 23 at his Brownsville home. He was a long time Rio Grande Valley Gas Co superintendent of maintenance and state DeMolay officer. Born February 3 1901 in Clifton he studied at Tarleton and A and M Col of College Station. He married Lela Jeanes in 1925 and had three sons John A William Joseph and Thomas who was killed in a gun accident.

Museum Opens New Year Hours At Bosque Memorial

The Bosque Memorial Museum will be open New Year’s Day from 2 00 to 5 00 PM announced Miss Gariie Nilsen to allow county visitors to tour the museum. Families with children are encouraged to visit during the holiday.

Mobil Oil opens Clifton bulk gasoline and oil headquarters

Ervin Grelle and assistant H A Prescher oversee new Clifton Mobil bulk unit begun last week. Tanks store 17627 gallons regular, 11788 diesel, 8880 diesel oil, and 4051 kerosene with overhead runways and two unloading pumps. The yard features a circular driveway, eyelone fence, 12 by 14 office, 28 by 44 feet warehouse, and separate outlets for rapid loading. The facility sits just north of Clifton Cemetery on Highway 6.

Clifton Residents Welcome Family Holiday Guests

Christmas visitors filled Clifton as Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Canuteson of Pasadena and Walter Sternberg of Houston stayed with Annie Canuteson and family. Numerous relatives from Texas A M College, Fort Worth, Odessa, Graham, and Midland visited local homes as Christmas week unfolded.

Cobb Announces For District Judge

Howell EB Cobb a Comanche lawyer announced his candidacy for District Judge of the 52nd Judicial District covering Bosque Comanche Coryell and Hamilton Counties He pledged to uphold justice in the Coke tradition and to campaign actively to meet voters before the May primary Cobb previously served as district attorney from 1951 to 1956 and as county judge at Brady from 1936 to 1940 He is active in the Army Reserve and local church and plans to visit voters statewide.

Prediction of an Educational War and 1960 outlook

The author foresees no shooting war in 1960 but calls it a coming educational war. Prices from Clifton buyers on Wednesday market report

Poultry prices list eggs at 30c and 25c per dozen for various grades with small lots on 15c to 22c ranges for cracks and dirties not wanted. Grain markets show milling wheat 1.85 per bushel feed wheat 1.65 oats 70 to 75 cents per bushel. Pecan prices weakening around 30 cents per pound. Cattle hog and lamb prices unavailable as report published early in the week.
