Direct dial phones extend from Clifton to Norse as 120 residents sign up with about 50 more expected this week. Wet weather slows line work but most lines and poles slated to be in use by March 15. Clifton absorbs historic Norse Telephone Company founded 1907.

Behringer notes compared to 1960 totals, Meridian fell to 294 from 471, Clifton dropped to 382, and overall poll taxes paid this year were 1,997 versus 2,913 in 1960.

Two candidates, W. O. Groff and T. F. Crawford, filed for Clifton Independent School trustee to replace C. H. Hoel and Robert Baldridge Jr. The deadline to file for the school race is March 1. In Clifton city elections set for April 4, Chas. M. Isenhower seeks mayor, Charles Rummel seeks council reelection, with E. E. Stewart and F. E. Lynch also running for council. Frank Spangle, the other current council member, is not seeking reelection. The final filing date is March 3.

Mrs C E Wiederaenders suffered a stroke and was taken to the local hospital Wednesday. J Bruce Parks, who had a heart attack at Marfa last week, was brought to Clifton hospital from Alpine. Roy Moore and Ray New drove to Alpine for Mr Parks. he and Mrs Parks went home in the ambulance.

Paul O Prescher Dies Here After Stroke and Illness
Paul Oscar Prescher aged 77 of Star Route 1 Clifton died February 18 in the local hospital after a heart condition and a stroke. He was born January 15, 1884 in Saxony Germany and came to the United States as an infant. He married Bertha Thiele in 1909 and they lived on farms in the Womack and Coyote communities. Survived by wife Bertha two sons Erich and Ralph two daughters Pauline and Elfriede seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held February 20 at Clifton Funeral Home Chapel and Immanuel Lutheran Church. He served on the Pleasant Hill school board and was active in church and community affairs. He will be remembered for kindness and humor.

Valley Mills native Mrs. Eula Goodall aged 77 died February 21 at Stevens Memorial Hospital Breckenridge after December hospitalization. She served as house mother at Trinity University and worked at McNeill Motor Co. Four Clifton firms along Highway 6 were robbed Sunday night or Monday morning. A H Oil Co suffered about 40 dollars from cash in change and machines.
