Spanish Archive Reveals San Antonio Colony Relief Petition
In 1738 settlers at the San Antonio villa petitioned the Spanish governor for seed relief as drought threatened crops. The translated document shows their plea, signed by Antonio Santos and others, asking aid to avert famine and detailing how relief funds would be repaid. The record, from the Bexar Archives, documents colonial governance and native-threated survival strategies.
