After the Tuesday session aldermen discussed elections and a wife voting patterns in two victories. Also announced a moms crafted football banquet with Vance Godhy catering at the National Guard Armory on Feb 27 with $2.75 tickets sold only in advance by 6 p.m. Feb 25.
The Trinity Lutheran Church of Clifton plans a house to house fund drive Sunday February 16 from 1 to 2 pm. Sunday School boys and girls will assist the Brotherhood in collecting contributions.
The CIF reaches 140 members with new additions T. H. Friday Ralph Kincheloe cleaners Boyd B. Cheatham E. S. Grelle. The group is halfway to the 300 member goal, needing 10 more to reach the mark.
Bosque County Commissioners Court paid off the final 25 000 of the county debt on Road and Bridge Refunding Bonds issued in 1949 saving 2 600 in interest. EK FE Stewart Motors of Chion won the bid for a 1969 Ford sheriff's car at 2 496 55 including trade in.
Jerry Keeling head coach of Estacado High School plans to speak at a Clifton Cubs Football Team banquet sponsored by the players mothers. The event will be Thursday February 27 at 7 p.m. at the National Guard Armory with Vance Godby catering. Tickets cost 275 and go on sale at Clifton drug stores and the high school office.
Clifton High School Stage Band won first place in Class A at the Tarleton State College Stage Band Contest held at Stephenville on February 8. Seventeen bands with about 400 students competed across five classes. Clifton defeated competitors Gorman Bridgeport Stephen ville and Paschal.
Clifton High National Honor Society members sponsored a Patriotism Day assembly in Betis Auditorium on February with James Petrich as master of ceremonies. Ronnie Barnett led the pledge. Patsy Ruth Lancaster directed the National Anthem. Jimmy Conrad gave the prayer. Principal Walter Hansen welcomed special guests Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Ralph and Laura Lee Ralph.
COPSE Chairman Leon Jaworski argues for fair share funding based on property value with an agricultural productivity exception. He cites widespread discrimination in state school aid, affects rural districts and urban districts alike, and calls for correcting injustices through constitutional and tax reforms.
Clifton alderman and mayor announce retirement plans as city prepares for April 5 election. Mayor Pierson says health and age drive decision after 50 years in public service while Alderman Outlaw also declines reelection. Blewett files for reelection as others remain undecided.
Clifton Cub Boys Varsity clinched the District 13 A title with a 14 1 season record after Valley Mills upset Itasca Wampus Cats 4 47 to hand Itasca two losses. In Tuesday action Clifton beat Whitney 64 41 led by 12 points from Mike Hult and David Reesing. Girls lost overtime 44 43 to China Spring. B squad did not play Whitney.
County Tax Assessor-Collector Varl Behringer announced his office received 4.07 percent of voter registration applications before the January 1 deadline. He noted duplicates and said processing is ongoing. He added that this is more registrations than expected for the county in an off election year.
Young people of Memorial Baptist Church will be feted at a Sweetheart Banquet at 7:50 p.m. Saturday February 15. The theme is The Deep South and special guest speaker will be Dr Glenn Filbern, Associate Professor of Religion at Baylor University.
Clifton's School Board plans to ratify a joint city school district election set for April 5 at tonight's meeting. Superintendent Kent Appleby said formal action will occur, noting cost savings and voter convenience from a shared election. Expiring terms belong to Lloyd Swenson Joseph Conrad and T J Wiggins with holdovers Dr W F Key Douglas Raisback Calvert Helms and Jack Hill. no candidates had filed by Wednesday morning.
