Legislative moves amid Texas land and gas control debate
The article reports ongoing scrutiny of the Land Office and proposed legislative revisions. A reform bill would shift granting powers to a Board of Mineral Development, limit the Land Commissioner’s discretion, and require state leasing oversight. It notes opposition from Commissioner McDonald and ex Speaker Coke Stevenson, and references related measures in the Texas Legislature and university oil lands management implications. It also mentions political activity around a Lieutenant Governor race and several West Texas candidates.
