Pvt. Ralph W Roetschke, son of Mr and Mrs Will Roetschke near Clifton, died as a prisoner of war in a Japanese prison camp. War Department confirmation notes he volunteered for Army duty in March 1941, served in the Philippines, and was captured after the fall. Propaganda broadcast claimed he was killed in action, but officials seek official verification through the Red Cross. relatives and community mourn his sacrifice for freedom.
