Advice On Reporting Of Interest Income
IRS official T S Ferguson in Waco explains all interest received in 1972 must be reported on general income tax returns unless exempt. Interest credited to accounts is taxable in the year of credit, and insurance dividends left on deposit are treated the same. Taxpayers may elect to report interest on Series E F and J bonds annually, or defer until maturity or cashing. Interest from deposits in banks and savings institutions is taxable even without a statement.
