A Meridian grand jury returned a true bill charging Dallas lawyer Norman Hamilton with the December 10 murder of Clarence Bethke foreman of the Hamilton Ranch east of Clifton. District Judge R B Cross set bond at 10000 and estimated a possible trial in March or April 1956.

Clifton High School teams split at Hico with the girls winning 49 to 39 and the boys losing 51 to 33. In Baylor tournament at Waco last week Clifton girls fell to Midway 51 to 26. Texas will adopt the standardized plate size in 1956 enlarging to 6 by 12 inches with yellow numerals on black. Bosque County allocations cover autos, trucks, farm trucks, trailers and dealer tags with specific ranges. Plates go on sale February 1, 1956.

Recognition Program Highlights Clifton FFA Honors
Clifton High School held a Recognition Program to honor FFA members. Kenneth Kruse received ribbons for reserve champion barrow at Clifton and Heart O' Texas Fairs. Four missing honorees were awarded Lone Star Farmer medals in Waco. Milton Dahl Jr. and Bob Lane received theirs there. The chapter has 41 Lone Star Farmer and 14 American Farmer awards, second to Whitney in American Farmer trophies. Bob Lane earned a tie clasp from the Rural Youth Committee of the State Fair of Texas and a Stetson hat earlier. Plans include Dekalb seed project placements for Jerry Peacok and Kenneth Larson, plus Farm and Ranch safety meeting attendance by John Parks. The quiz team of Struempler, Nieman, and Golden won first in Waco district and seventh in Area 8. Jamie Zander earned top prize in the State Fair heavyweight Angus class. Claude Wagner and Johnny Guy Lockhart also received ribbons for fair placements.

V C Ludwick longtime Clifton resident and signal chief was seriously injured Tuesday when his railroad motor car collided with a work train near Lampasas. He remained unconscious Thursday morning with internal injuries and severe bruising, but Temple Santa Fe hospital reported slight improvement and hopeful prognosis as friends await further updates.

Meridian courthouses will close Saturday December 24 and Monday December 26 for Christmas and Monday January 2 for New Year’s Day. Death of W. H. Dansby Mourned in Clifton
Obituary notes W H Dansby age 60 8 6 died December 19 at Scott and White Temple after illness since September. Born April 18 1895 in Coffeeville Kansas he moved to Bosque County as a child. Veteran of WWI he and wife Ethel Walker had son Elmo. He built Dansby Feed Mills in Clifton and served as deacon and Sunday School superintendent. Survived by wife son mother and a grandson.

Antlerless deer season closes at Flat Top Ranch
The Walnut Springs Flat Top Ranch near Dallas reported 170 hunters bagging 43 antlerless deer from a quota of 208 as the season closed December 15. Among the harvest were 26 adult does, six doe fawns and 11 buck fawns, with 19 hunters taking their first deer.

Ice Company Changes Hands in Clifton
Charles Isenhower completed a transaction acquiring the Clifton Ice Company from Price Wallace and leasing land from the Santa Fe Railway. Wallace will run the pool hall now in the Mills Stewart feed store building, while Isenhower plans to move his Valley Feed Store operations to the Clifton ice site. He will continue ice manufacture and use cold storage for eggs and space rentals. Herbert Leek will join Walsleben in operating the ice and feed businesses.

Ralph A. Olsen of Ellsworth Iowa shared with Clifton Public Schools students his 10 000 mile U S S R journey earlier this year as part of a farmer exchange. He described state and collective farms, eight hour days, large farm sizes, and the separation of children from mothers at two months for nurseries. He noted atheism, church services, and a disciplined, reportedly honest populace with strong moral codes.
