Clifton Cubs varsity beat West Trojans 62 54 while B squad won 70 56. Doug Symank led with 20 points and 11 assists. Alan Roberts 14. Russell Hail 14 rebounds. In Granbury tourney Clifton topped Cleburne JV 67 41. Symank high game 126 rating. Pirates edged Cubs 69 67 with Symank 28. Also 372 tickets sold for New Year Eve Dance. 28 remain of 400 cap.
Clifton veterans of foreign wars post for toys campaign gathers contributions from Lions Club and locals to provide toys and clothing to needy children. Retired veterans repair and refurbish damaged toys while benefactors donate new items as ministers plan distribution.
The Clifton City Council approved a tax cut clarified as 10 cents off the tax rate rather than a 10 percent reduction. For a $1.15 per $100 tax evaluation, the rate drops to $1.05, yielding about 8 to 9 percent real savings for 1973 taxes.
Churches across the Clinton Bosque Valley publish their Christmas week worship plans. Regular services, special candlelight and pageant events, youth caroling, and joint services with Our Saviors Lutheran Church are scheduled from December 24 through December 25 with multiple times and participating congregations.
Funeral services for Frank H. Sormrude longtime Clifton grocer were held at Grace Memorial Baptist Church in Clifton with burial in Clifton Cemetery. He died Monday in Clinton hospital at 76 and had operated a Clifton grocery for 45 years. He survived by his wife son brother sister and two granddaughters. Clifton Funeral Home handled arrangements.
