Mrs Minnie Robinson veteran Texan resident dies December 11 1946 after several weeks illness at Cayote community aged 76. Funeral services were held at Cayote Methodist Church with Rev Frank Stone Rev Sidney Roberts and Rev J W Culwell officiating. She organized the Cayote Methodist Church and was last surviving charter member. Survived by four children Omar Meridian Margie Sorenson Denver City Raymond Edna Colleen Valley Mills two sisters and several relatives. Burial followed in the local cemetery with numerous floral tributes and expressions of respect.
A college hosted a Simultmas pageant with a Nativity presentation that drew a huge crowd. New acts and variations were added to the program, highlighting the season's celebration.
The Cubs beat Turnersville High 28 to 12 as Amos Elder Richards Wendell Wallace Doyle Hulme and Orville Langseth led the team. Hulme and Langseth scored eight points each with Wallace Elder and Richards adding one point apiece. The Turnersville defense used man to man in the second half. The Cubs face Meridian Thursday December 19 at 2 30 p m at home in the last game before Christmas break. The next conference game starts January 10.
In a slingy game at Black Cat Stadium Mei Mast FYE the Fairfield Eagles defeated Valley Mills in the fourth quarter to claim the regional crown.
Clifton Junior College edged Ranger Junior College 23 to 22 at the High School Gym in the season opener. Robert Haugen led Clifton with 16 points, Charlie Sommerfeld 8, Simmie Blackman 4, while Ranger’s Sullivan scored 5 from near the court. The Cowboys showed potential for a fast, improved offense as the season progresses with improved ball handling and shooting. Next game for Clifton is Thursday night December 19 at 7:00 against Dallas Naval Air Station.
Madeley, the new soil conservation advisor for the Bosque County Soil Conservation District, met with Clifton district members last Monday with W. T. Bennett. He succeeds Taree who moved to Kaufman Van Zandt County. Madeley will serve Bosque Erath Somerville Hamilton Coryell and Palo Pinto counties.
Mr and Mrs RQ Allen Clifton welcome their son Jerry Wade born at Goodall and Witcher Clinic Hospital on December 17 1946 at 618 PM. The new baby joins two siblings in Mosheim.
Milford J Hoff died about 1:00 Friday morning December 13 in Clifton after a period of illness. A World War I Marine veteran, he served in Belleau Wood and Argonne, earned the Croix de Guerre, and later worked as Central Freight Agent while active in church and civic life. He leaves his wife Alma and daughter Joyce, plus parents and siblings. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church with burial at Ditton Cemetery.
Clifton officials and Basque County leaders seek state approval to secure right of way for a Farm to Market road from Clifton to Womack. The route, 100 to 120 feet wide with paving and curves, begins at Clifton’s Simmons corner and runs east through the business district, across railroad tracks, and over Bosque River on a new bridge. Negotiations with landowners will start. the project aims to improve rural access and all weather travel.
The Clifton FFA reports a busy year with sixteen registered female hogs and 32 hogs shown at the Hamilton Fat Stock Show. They entered one pen of capons and two calves, one bought from Hat Top Ranch and weighing about 1000 pounds. They also exhibited 22 head of hogs at the Fort Worth Fat Stock Show and showed Duroc Hampshire and Berkshire stock at Dallas State Fair. The chapter completed three projects, built a concession booth, prepared for harvest, visited the Texas State Fair on FPA Day, and conducted a day trip to Stephenville for college visits and dairy farm tours. They hosted a watermelon feast, built window screens for the school gymnasium and Wood Store, and focused on protein fodder and breeding practices.
