Supt Brashears signs post to enter war work with National Guard approval. He leaves Clifton School and student body with regret, saying he could do more in armed forces. He will train in Navy, plans fall move to With, Maine, and departs with family to support national defense.
Memorial services were held for Claud Outlaw at Beare Ville Baptist Church, where his parents were members and he joined at age six. Family and friends offered prayers for comfort as music and readings honored his life, a Marine veteran, and a devoted neighbor. Deep sympathy was extended to his parents and siblings.
Dre, Ronelt De Hlolt, James 8. Cal hoon and Van D. Goodall examining physicians this week examine the 18 and 19 year old registrants who registered on June 0eh this year. The remainder of this group will probably not be examined until some time in January 1943.
John P Sather 68 died in Waco after a lengthy illness that began with high blood pressure and a paralytic stroke in 1941. Born August 8 1874 in Konpe Vinger Norway he came to Bosque County Texas in 1901 and lived near the Norse community. The funeral at the local Lutheran church was conducted by Rev L Paulson with burial in Norse cemetery.
A fragment from an old legends piece recounts Bill Jones a Montana or Texas youth who joined the Army in World War II serving in the Philippines and Navy. The tale frames his wartime valor and tragic end with dramatic personal anecdotes and wartime hardships.
A garbled obituary notes Trotter born February 28, 1871 in Georgia, moved to Texas in 1900, joined a Baptist church in Plot ove, Texas in 1902, and was a member of Tom Bean Baptist Church at his death. He married Mile Hapkine on December 10, 1902. survived by wife and four children. The piece also lists Bosque County men enlisted or indicted in the past week, including Dorman Sanders and others, amid notes on wartime shortages and brine mining.
Local schools continue strong work in purchasing war bonds and stamps. The "Schools At War" program slogan adopts a farm battle cry tone, urging all students and staff to contribute during the current drive.
Post Office warnings urge the public to mail gifts earlier this year as wartime transport burdens tighten peak mailing times. Seven small offices report parcels moving 10 to 12 days earlier but fear current volume still risks delays unless mailings are sharply increased and nearly complete by December 18.
Twenty one youths aged eighteen registered on the first registration day for this group in Bosque County on December 12 1942. Nest registration for those born September and October 1924 is Saturday December 19 1942 at the same locations. Last registration for those born November and December 1924 is December 29 1942 at the usual places.
J R Standefer a Clifton native aged 87 died at his Waco home after a long heart illness. Funeral services were held at Calvary Baptist Church with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Survivors include widow Annie Standefer son Harold daughter Mrs A Parker five brothers and one sister. Standefer lived in Waco for 27 years moving from Clifton and was born in Me Termin county.
Ralph W Helm is named chair of the Bosque County Red Cross War Fund campaign to begin after January 1 1943. District chairmen will be chosen to oversee county sections with a large volunteer force. The drive starts around March 1 1943 and will combine the annual roll call into the War Fund effort per C G Bronstad chapter chairman.
Next Monday December 21 1942 citywide cleanup day urged residents to place trash in boxes or cans for City Wagon pickup. Mayor L Standefer asks cooperation to keep Clifton cleaner healthier and more beautiful.
A service flag bearing five gold stars will be dedicated at St Olaf Lutheran Church Cranfills Gap during the 11 am morning service on Sunday December 20. The community also notes four local youths enlisted in Student Army Naval and Marine reserves and a proceeding Christian flag service.
