Clifton High School basketball squads finished a busy week with nine games. Clifton Girls Varsity fell in the Robinson tournament then defeated Hico to move to 8-2 while Girls B-Squad rose to 7-1. Cubs Varsity went 1-2 in Robinson and the Boys B-Squad beat Valley Mills to reach 3-0. Doug and Russell Symank led scoring across the tourney and Valley Mills games as Clifton prepares for the Valley Mills Invitational starting Friday with China Spring and Glen Rose Crawford matchups.
A Christmas Music Program will be presented Sunday December 19 at 2 30 PM in Bettis Auditorium by the Clifton High School Choir Junior High Girls Choir fifth and sixth grade choirs and the 3rd and 4th grades Solos include Robert Crawford Tommy Henderson and Eddie Gauntt in We Three Kings Linda Schwartz will accompany The public is invited and admission is free
A. M. Buck Greenwade of Clifton announces plans to run for Constable of Justice Precinct No 8 in Bosque County. The precinct includes Crantills Gap Norse Clifton and Womack communities and was vacated by the late Warren Prince.
The World War I Barracks and Auxiliary met at Mrs. Martha Lyons home in Clifton on December 7 for a Christmas party and supper. Seventeen ladies and seven men attended.
The Record lists Clifton area church observances for Christmas commemorating Christ’s birth. Trinity Lutheran Church Sunday School plans a Christmas program on December 19 at 7 p m with a visual presentation titled Peace For The.
At Clifton's December meeting the City Council clashed over a November motion to pay Mayor Isenhower's expenses for a Honolulu National League of Cities gathering including meals. Disputes over a supposed second and vote caused further contention, with councilmembers claiming misrecorded minutes and potential tie scenarios.
The Clifton and county banks close Friday December 4 and Saturday December 5 for a holiday, with more closures on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Twenty five families will win Plantation Beauty turkeys free in Clifton as Chamber member merchants sponsor a draw. Registration runs until 4 p.m. Saturday December 18 at any member store. Drawings start at 5 p.m. with one turkey per family and some stores planning their own drawings. Individuals need not be present to win.
The Norse Saddle Club held its annual Christmas party Saturday night and elected officers for 1972. Milton Dahl was named president and Doris Dahl reporter secretary treasurer. Jerry Odle became vice president with Jake Wimberly as area director and Debra Ludwig as sweetheart. Farline Solberg is entertainment chairman, with Carl Smith and Dick Golden as directors.
Fight boys from Gatesville State School for Boys escaped and were at large over the weekend. Five were recaptured near Gatesville, two more caught at Clifton, and another suspect, possibly linked to a Clifton car theft, remained at large at presstime Wednesday morning. It is unclear if the Clifton theft involved an escapee from Gatesville.
Christmas week Clifton post office hours set with windows closing at 12 noon on Christmas Eve and New Year Eve. All mail deliveries continue in city rural and star routes. no deliveries on Christmas and New Year Day. Special Delivery mail delivered within Clifton city. Box holders can access mail on holidays and Sundays.
