Clifton council adopts 1975 76 budget for city
Clifton City Council approved a 476 889 budget for 1975 76 at City Hall. City Manager Neystel said general fund expenditures would total 346 750, down 22 642 from 369 392 in 1974 75, while reimbursable grants rise to 130 139. The plan keeps the tax rate at 1 05 per 100, with sewer and water charges adjusted and a new 2 monthly garbage pickup fee.

Clifton Independent School District Sees Steady Enrollment Drop
Superintendent Richard Liardon reports district enrollment down from 881 last year to 795 this year. Elementary and junior high total 528 with kindergarten through eighth grades, high school total 267, freshman class 86 the largest and senior class 36 the smallest. Previous years show a long term ebb from 931 in 1965-66 to under 700 in the earlier years, and 844 in 1973-74.

Vandalism Hits Clifton Elementary School Buildings
Police say juveniles possibly involved climbed onto the roof at Clifton Elementary, broke windows, scattered Halloween materials, smashed eyeglasses, and stole a stapler and crayons from the old vocational agriculture building and main building. A separate incident saw two misdemeanor traffic charges after a July 20 collision on State Highway 6. A 1967 station wagon and a 1962 sedan sustained damage. one motorist fled and was later charged.

An official Texas Historical Marker for Cleng Peerson will be erected 8.5 miles west of Clifton on FM 219. The 18 by 28 inch cast aluminum marker, sponsored by Mrs. Mary C. Orbeck, notes Peerson as the Father of Norwegian Immigration to America and his role in Bosque County’s early Norwegian settlement.
