Downtown parade at 6 p.m. launches the 44th Central Texas Fair and 25th Rodeo on Thursday August 2. Clifton sponsors the event highlighting community festivities.
The Lions Club parade forms on Ave D with marshals Diana Rogstad Jim Jones Jim Burch Joe White and others directing riders and bands. U turn crackdown announced by Clifton Police Chief Alvin James targets West 3rd St North Ave D and West 5th St. Enforcement will ticket violators. Parade awards total $50 $25 for bands and up to $200 for float prizes plus $100 each for top boy and girl exhibitors at the fair. Rodeo, carnival, and home show events planned with multiple sponsors and exhibitors.
The 160 employees at Walls Industries Clifton plant were honored in a morning ceremony for earning a Sears Symbol of Excellence award. Sam Walls praised staff for quality work as Victor Conrad and Wanda Ray joined the tribute. Charlies Beifert presented the plaque to George Wells for all Walls employees. Walls employs about 1,100 total across Clifton and other plants.
Comptroller Bob Bullock issued a statewide $19.9 million sales tax rebate array with Clifton receiving $7,448.73. Other Bosque County towns posted varied amounts, while August rebates show a surge before a three month cycle concludes. Bullock also proposed cities receive a share of any delinquent collections, changing the prior priority order.
Clifton City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Friday at City Hall to act on the $476 889 budget for 1975 76 presented by City Manager Kenneth R. Neystel. The plan holds the $1.05 tax rate per $100 assessed value and adds charges for sewer, water, garbage, with adjustments to other line items.
Western 22 caliber gun taken in a recent break at Barner’s Mobil Station Clifton was recovered Sunday, Bosque County Sheriff John Baxter announced. Deputy Byron Howard jailed four men for hunting deer out of season, fined $102.50 each, amid complaints of illegal hunting near Meridian State Park.
Two Clifton Volunteer Fire Department units fought a grass blaze at the dump for about two hours last week, halting spread and preventing damage to nearby brush and structures.
The Clifton High School Cubs meet Whitney High in a 6 p.m. Saturday scrimmage at Cub Stadium. The 1975 grid schedule lists season games across several towns with district foes including McGregor Robinson West Mart and Hillsborg.
Clifton Civic Improvement Society hosts its annual turkey dinner at the Central Texas Fair and Rodeo in the new Civic Center dining room starting 1 a.m. Friday. Food lasts while it does, served family style with baked turkey, potatoes, green beans, fruit salad, bread, cranberries, pickles, pie, and iced tea or coffee. This year no to go dinners. about 200 served last year. Committee: W Parks Windham chair, Jess G Hammock Jr, W F Key Jr.
Three females, including a juvenile, were detained by Clifton police at 2 10 am on liquor offenses. The juvenile was released to a parent later. One adult faced driving while intoxicated charges and was held for probation action. Another adult pled guilty to public intoxication and was fined. A runaway 15 year old was found and returned to parents pending juvenile officer disposition. A vehicle collision on North Ave D caused light to medium light damage with no injuries.
Clifton Police Department reports ongoing cooperation to remove abandoned trimotor vehicles from public rights of way. Police Chief Alvin James said many vehicles remain to be moved, but work continues to clear the area.
Lone Star Gas seeks a 20 cent per thousand cubic feet rate increase to offset higher wholesale costs and inflation. The council will revisit the proposal at 7 p.m. on Tuesday September 9, with City Manager Neyster to consult the Texas Municipal League for guidance.
Twenty responders and three pieces of equipment from the West Shore Volunteer Fire Department battled a house fire in the lake area early Sunday. The blaze was quickly extinguished with no injuries. the call came in at 1:45 a.m. The property is owned by Paul Charles of McGregor.
