Borchers Family Moves to New Mexico Military Institute

Mr and Mrs Doyle J Borchers and son Johnny left Clifton on August 15 for Roswell New Mexico where Johnny will enroll as a freshman at New Mexico Military Institute. He received an athletic and academic scholarship through the Naval Foundation of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis MD. They visited San Angelo prior to returning home August 18 and met Mrs Dagny Haffey and the George family.

Clifton public schools set registration and meeting schedule

Superintendent Kent Appleby announced the new school year timetable for Clifton. High school registration hours and first grade registration are set for Tuesday with a teachers' meeting to precede the start of classes.

Obituary for Ed Kettler of Clifton and Womack

Funeral services for Ed Kettler 53 were held at Zion United Church of Christ in Womack near Clifton. He died August 17 from a heart attack while driving with his son Johnny Wayne to Clifton and was buried in Clifton Cemetery. He married Grace Schmidt in 1928 and had eight children.

Bank Burglary at Crawfills Gap Stirs Local Inquiry

First Security State Bank in Crawfills Gap was burglarized early Sunday, about 784.85 dollars in silver missing from one vault and boxes dumped. A Waco man questioned over the burglary later claimed to be in Dallas. authorities suspect the crime was staged with the money likely buried near Meridian Lake. The break in halted plans for a forthcoming open house and marks the bank's second burglary in 50 years.

Bosque County 4 H Camp drew 66 boys and girls for three days of swimming sports activities electric safety workshops and method demonstrations at Reddy's Retreat Lake Whitney August 15 17. Newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Glen Wayne Ham, married in Alvin on August 16, visited Clifton this week with his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Sam Richards and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Claude Richards. He serves aboard the USS Piedmont AD 17 returning from a cruise to Japan. The couple’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. David Ham of Zapata. Watermelon Harvest on Half Acre Yields 603 Fruits

Simon Bekkelund of Route 2 Clifton on Highway 6 reports a half acre crop producing 603 melons so far this summer. They note feeding melons to cows and orphan calves, sharing many melons with friends, and hoping for rain to harvest about 300 more.

Prices from Thursday morning show POULTRY eggs and hens, CREAM at 40c, GRAIN with oats 65c a bushel and wheat around $1.80, plus cattle at Clifton's Wednesday sale: 625 head offered, prices ranging from 13 to 25 dollars for cows and calves and 19 to 23 for stocker steers. Hog top at 16.75 and lambs 9 to 16.
