Clifton City Council Tables Proposed Tax Reappraisal Plan

The Clifton City Council unanimously tabled a proposed tax reappraisal program. Estimated cost ranges from 10008 to 1750 dollars, depending on scope, with 606 residences and 14 businesses to be revalued. In 1965 a similar effort lowered the tax rate from 1.50 to 1.15, carried out by Professional Appraisal Co of Fort Worth led by B Barney Baker.

Reappraisal Proposal Stirs Questions At Council

Council hears that staff from Professional Appraisal Co could not meet with the board of equalization to answer taxpayers questions. A $12 750 package would supply firm representatives to meet taxpayers speak before civic groups and publish articles explaining the program. The firm argues values will reflect local costs sales prices and economic conditions and be uniform and fair across all property.

Clifton Booster Club Opens Membership to Women

The Clifton Booster Club voted to admit women and will meet weekly at 7 p.m. in Cub Stadium field house to support Clifton High School football. Forty-six members attended the first meeting of the school year. officers are Larry Wilkerson president Joe White vice president Bil Painter secretary and treasurer. Directors elected include Edwin Conrad Olee Bakke B T Land Joe Pierson Marvin Fossett and Clinton Sinderud. Gerald Baker handles Booster Club news for The Clifton Record. The enthusiasm committee includes Mr. Land Merle Belcher Bill Stringer and Doyle Hulme. Adolph Thiele was named an honorary member.

Cranfills Gap Lions Upset With Prospects For 1973 Campaign

Cranfills Gap Lions list 15 prospects out for the 1973 football season 4 of them starters from 1972 5 returning lettermen and 6 upcoming freshmen. Returning standouts include Bruce Knudson Owen Carlson Stephen Otimers and Larry Bronstad with key lettermen Reymond Rivera Parks Tucker Hastings Erger son and Ricky Payne. Clifton school enrollment hits 844 record this year

Clifton Independent School District reports total enrollment rising from 797 last year to 844 this year led by 605 in elementary and junior high and 229 in high school. Supt Kent Appleby expects further gains with 10 to 15 more students likely.

Emergency Number Seen As Big Help By Jamie Zander

Jamie Zander says Clifton Tele phone Co 675 8511 emergency number should cure all the problems he noted at a City Council meeting. He spoke as an individual not as a Clifton Volunteer Fire Department representative. He clarified he was not criticizing operators or workers. He stressed the number could fix service if people use it.

Five Departments Fight Grass Fire Near Valley Mills

Five volunteer departments Clifton Valley Mills Meridian Crawford and China Springs battled an open grass pasture fire on the Delmar Ranch three to four miles beyond Valley Mills on State Highway 6 toward Waco. No buildings were involved. The blaze began around 3:30 and was under control by about 5:30.

Cubs Prepare For Two Preseason Scrimmages

Clifton High School varsity football coach A T Roberts schedules two pre season scrimmages. On Friday August 24 the Cubs travel to Cedar Hill for the first scrimmage. The following Friday Rogers High visits Clifton Cubs Stadium for the second scrimmage.

Clifton residents are reminded of a special emergency telephone number now in operation. The Clifton Telephone Company advises calling 475-8511 in all emergencies instead of dialing the operator.

Civic Society Plans Annual Turkey Dinner for Fair

Clifton Civic Improvement Society will again serve a turkey dinner with all the trim mings at 11 a.m. Friday, August 31, in City Hall dining room during the Central Texas Fair and Rodeo. Prices will rise due to higher food costs, with turkeys alone nearly 290. The event features numerous committees and volunteers handling bakers, table setup, decorations, ticket sales, hostesses, waitresses, and to go orders.
