Charlie Rhoades known as Sun-perch Charlie shocked friends by catching two 42 lb catfish at the Old Mill dam on Monday. On Tuesday he landed eight 47 lb catfish at the same spot with Hadie Wauke and J. Alexander helping haul the log fish in.
Arnold H. Spitzer, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Spitzer of Boaque County, has been promoted to captain at Camp Joseph T. Robinson Little Rock. An A. and M. graduate, he benefited from military training at Texas college and advanced rapidly in Co. C, 15th Regiment, Zi at Bn. The community extends congratulations and good wishes for his continued service.
Unusually fine rains fell across the region Sunday and Monday, totaling two to three and a half inches, bringing benefits to ranch lands while raising concerns about worsening worm damage. Farmers hope the rainfall alleviates drought and supports crops, though worms threaten soils and feed sources.
A Valley Mills family reports their son Paul T. Brown is missing in action in the Philippines. Brown enlisted in September 1940 and served with medical troops before being stationed at Clark Field on December 7. Local relatives Me and Mrs H Brown have been notified.
