W Percy Smith longtime Mineral Wells corporation counsel died Tuesday morning after a long service in Bosque County. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Central Christian Church with burial at Woodland Park. Born January 5, 1874 in Bosque County he moved to Mineral Wells years ago and later served as city attorney. He was active in the Central Christian Church and the men’s Sunday School.
Texas Agriculture Commissioner J E McDonald told farmers to seek the 22 cent parity price for the 1942 cotton crop, urging use of government loans and avoiding selling below parity. He cited labor shortages and rising costs, warning farmers not to lose confidence or sell cotton below the required price.

Mrs. Jennie Anderson Crow mother of Mrs. H J Cureton died at her Meridian home Saturday August Funeral services were held Sunday at 4 pm with burial in Gatesville. She was born February 10 1868 at Longpoint Texas and moved to Waco early. Surviving are daughter Mrs H J Cureton Meridian two sons C Crow Dallas four grandsons and two sisters.
Washington reports the War Production Board orders the entire 1942 dried fruit crop including apples apricots peaches and raisins diverted to Army and Navy needs. Surplus stock remains available to civilians while California table grapes used for raisins are diverted and cannot be used for wine or fresh sale. Prices for canned tomatoes and peas are rolled back to restore profit margins without harming consumers.
A large number of Bosque County men, reportedly around 40, left Monday morning for final examinations at the army induction center in Dallas. Those who passed were inducted into service and given furloughs to settle affairs at home before training. Marvin Hall, State Fire Insurance Commissioner, urges waste paper collections for churches, schools, clubhouses and similar public buildings to reduce fire risk from paper storage.
