Mrs. John Banister, widow of the late Sheriff John Banister, was appointed by the commissioners court to fill the unexpired term after his death during his second term. Banister had the most votes in the recent primary and would have faced W. R. Hamilton in a runoff.
Announcement by Mr Strecker states a woman will hold the secretary post for the county Democratic Executive Committee in McLennan. The move is claimed to make the county possibly the first in the state to have four women in county party leadership roles.
