Central Texas Fair plans new Exhibits Building

The Central Texas Fair directors approve a new option for the Home Economics Division Show. The iron clad Exhibits Building will sit on a concrete slab, elevated to clear flood lines, with kitchen and rest room facilities and roof vents. Private funds from individuals and groups will finance construction with two building chairs and Robert Baldridge coordinating gifts. Funds go into a dedicated building account.

Marker dedicates Cleng Peerson tribute west of Clifton

A large crowd gathered Sunday afternoon to dedicate a marker to Cleng Peerson eighty miles west of Clifton on Farm Market Road 219. Lloyd Matson spoke, calling Peerson the Father of Norwegian Immigration to America, and county officials recognized out of town visitors. The ceremony included invocation by Pastor Alvon Nelson, music by Gayle Squyres, and benediction. Clarence Colwick unveiled the marker as Mrs. Sam Radde read the inscription.

Rotary to award 1976 Bosque County scholarships

The Bosque County Clifton Rotary Club will give two $200 scholarships to a 1976 graduate of Clifton High School and a Cranfills Gap High School student. Funds come from the first Bosque County talent show open to Clifton Crawfish Gap residents, supporting club as the newest Rotary International District 587 member.

Junior Cubette Relays Set at Clifton April 30

The 6th annual Junior Cubette Relays are scheduled at Clifton on April 30 with running events starting at 1 p.m. Officials expect six 7th grade teams: Clifton, Joshua, Gatesville, West, Groesbeck, Rogers. 8th grade field includes Clifton, Hamilton, Crawford Gap, Joshua, Gatesville, West, Groesbeck, Rogers. Finals begin at 6 p.m. with the 4 by 49 relay.

CHS Golf Team Wins District 22A title at McGregor

Clifton High School clinched first in District 22A golf at Rolling Hills Country Club McGregor after a 15 stroke lead. McGregor placed second with Hillsboro Mart and West following. Dale Hulme was runner-up medalist and David Burden finished third. team members included Steve Henry Don Burden and Bob Davie. The Cubs advance to Brenham regionals April 28 and 29.

Congressman W R Poage's office announced that the Farmer's Home Administration will provide a 216600 loan to Clifton Manor Inc in Clifton for 16 rental units. This funds supplement a 321100 loan approved in June 1974 for 24 units, aimed at housing low and moderate income families at reasonable prices.

Bosque County reports February sales of United States Savings Bonds at 10437 with two month total 16196 toward an 1976 goal of 200000. Texas statewide February sales reach 22615095 while February 1975 sales were 20183108.

Ex-police chief injured during Blum arrest

Former Police Chief Homer Waller now a Hill County deputy sheriff was injured Thursday in Blum during arrests of two men accused of damaging car windshields. He and two deputies fought as they moved to seize the suspects. Waller was treated and released from Whitney Hospital. The Blum father and son were charged with assault on a police officer and posted $5,000 bonds.

Local car costs total over ten million a year in Bosque County

A Park Rew News Service report shows Bosque County residents spend about 10.9 million yearly to own and operate 5,960 cars. The AAA analysis also estimates a modest vacation costs 69 dollars daily per couple, 966 dollars for a two week trip, and an annual car bill of 1,831 dollars per owner.

Lake Whitney hosts 24th beauty pageant Friday and Saturday

The Lake Whitney Beauty Pageant returns for its 24th year in Whitney School auditorium with 65 contestants in petite junior and senior divisions. Petites and juniors perform Friday at 8 pm and the senior pageant follows Saturday at 8 pm. Miss Lake Whitney alumni from Meridian and Waco headline the field. winner advances to Miss Texas Universe in August in El Paso.
