A wartime appeal urges Clifton area residents to buy Liberty Bonds as souvenirs of loyalty and patriotism. It notes local success with prior bonds, honors returning servicemen, and asks the community to support Uncle Sam by boosting bond purchases to fund the government’s needs.
The Spring meeting in Clifton drew about forty to fifty members. Discussions focused on wool clip handling, to be concentrated at Clifton and Valley Mills. Members reported 439 sheep and goats lost to dogs and wolves in the past year. A committee was named to circulate petitions for higher wolf bounty and dog taxation. Speakers Mr. McKnight and Mr. Miller addressed the group at the High School.
Due to the pastor being away the Immanuel Lutheran Church will not hold a service this Sunday. A meeting is announced for Monday April 28 at 8 p m conducted by Pastor W H Bewie.
Fred Solosth an old-time citizen died at his cousin Mrs. O Omenson home in Clifton Sunday night April 20 after weeks of illness. A rock and brick mason by trade he helped build many rock structures in Clifton and did related work that will memorialize him. Funeral services and interment were held at Norse cemetery by Rev. J K Rystad at 3 o clock Monday afternoon.
County Chairman Charles W. Clarkson urges all residents to support the Victory Liberty Loan as the final government loan. The appeal emphasizes national sacrifice, the last shots for democracy, and honoring fallen heroes while urging every man and woman to raise their quota and do their part.
The Methodist Church invites visitors to Sunday School at 10 a.m. and preaching at 11 a.m. A junior league meets at 3 p.m. An 8:30 p.m. service features special music by the choir. Pastor Geo F Kornegay signs the notice.
The Clifton Chautauque for 1919 starts Monday, May 26. A Redpath Horner Company representative is in town to help organize advertising and ticket sales. A 6:30 meeting is set at John Grimland’s office today.
About 200 Texas overseas soldiers healing in a base hospital refused to ride in the San Jacinto day parade with Governor Hobby after vetoing a bill to allow voting by soldiers. They reversed after appeals and planned to participate carrying Victory Loan posters.
One act comedy by the sixth and seventh grades of Clifton public school will be presented Saturday night April 26. Admission 10 and 15 cents with proceeds benefitting the athletic club of these grades. Campbell Butler, teaching at Terrell, was home briefly at the start of the week.
In Temple Texas on April 21 Rogers led Bell county towns by surpassing the 57 million Victory Loan quota. The final push after a 5 pm rally drew rapid bond subscriptions, with Rogers closing over the target amid a community celebration described as revival like. Dr R B Curtis of Rogers received a French bravery medal for his son’s death in France, with eight other Rogers boys also killed in action. Judge Blair notes Rogers will receive two service flags for going over the top and setting an example for Bell county communities. R E Guess led the campaign and local businesses closed to support the effort.

Former Governor James E. Ferguson of Temple files five separate suits in Belton District Court seeking $50,000 actual and $50,000 exemplary damages each from Houston Chronicle Publishing Company over June and July 1918 articles discussing the gubernatorial campaign.
H E Hafer of Brenham and Miss Louise Conrad united in marriage Sunday afternoon at 3 30 at the German church in Womack with Rev Theo Pfandt officiating. The bride wore silk satin with georgette crepe and beads. The groom, a Brenham bank employee, will reside in Brenham.
A 28 member Bosque county party led by H. C. Odle and H. J. Cureton visited the Desdemonia oil field last Friday and inspected Bosque Oil Co. lease deemed best in the field. Subscriptions oversubscribed the next day. drilling contract let and outfit bought, likely bound for the site.

Catechumens meet Tuesdays and Fridays at 4:00. Choir meets Thursday night at 8:30. Parish school trustees meet Friday night at 8:30. Pastor Theodore Lerud extends a cordial welcome to all services.
