Spring Festival Committees Announced for Clifton Event

The Clifton Public Schools host the annual Spring Festival on April 28 organized by the local PTA. Food and beverages will be sold in the school cafeteria from 6 to 8 PM, followed by a musical program in Bettis Auditorium at 8 PM. Coffee and cold drinks are managed by named parent committees.

Eighth grade students entering Clifton High School next year will attend Freshman Orientation Day in Bettis Auditorium at 8:30 Monday. Parents are invited to learn high school graduation and college entrance requirements to help students choose courses.

Clifton JC elects new officers for coming year

The Clifton Junior Chamber of Commerce elected officers at the March 29 meeting. Bill Painter will be president, Larry Bary secretary, Frank Cunningham Jr. treasurer, Kenneth G Nelson vice president internal affairs, Harold Kettler vice president external affairs, Harvey Lane inter-club director, and Charles Raines civic affairs chairman. Other posts include Dr Don A Gloff youth activity chairman Dayton Whitehurst health and safety chairman Fred Ludwig membership chairman and David Tyssen agricultural chairman. Harvey Lane was the prior president.

Deadline Set for Summer Baseball Applications

The Clifton Baseball and Sports for Youth Association announces a Saturday April 23 deadline to submit applications for peewee through senior leagues. Applications may be handed to Mrs. J M Finstad Joe Pierson or James Wright. as of Monday only 55 had been received, with only three juniors signed up, enough others could form a junior team.

Clifton Garden Club Wins Sears Award for Civic Beautification

Clifton Garden Club received the Certificate of Merit for Civic Beautification from the Sears Roebuck Foundation at the 38th Texas Garden Clubs convention in Dallas. The club submitted plans to beautify Clifton Memorial Park on the Clifton Meridian farm road, with up to 500 dollars over three years. 50 dollars has been approved so far.

FFA Youth Rodeo Held This Weekend in Clifton

Clifton Chapter of the Future Farmers of America sponsors its annual Youth Rodeo on April 22 and 23 at the Clifton Horse Show arena. Events include bareback bronc riding barrel racing and bull riding with Ro land Reid of the Double R Ranch supplying stock. Trophies awarded to event winners and ribbons to top four in each event. Tickets 50 cents for children and one dollar for adults.

County Clerk Extends Hours for Absentee Voting

Bosque County Clerk's Office in Meridian will stay open on April 23 and April 30 to allow residents to vote absentee for the May 7 Democratic Primary. Mrs. Jimmie B. Gill announced the extra Saturdays to facilitate absentee ballots.

Clifton Records 0.90 Inch Rainfall Amid Drought

The Clifton official weather station reports Sunday night rainfall of 0.90 inches, measured at 7:00 AM Monday. Bosque County Polled Hereford Association secretary-treasurer A. L. Haster says he lost five calving-ready Polled Herefords to lightning Sunday night eight miles east of Clifton, with offers of $400 each turned down last week.

CHS Students Excel in UIL District Literary Meet

Nine Clifton High School students placed at the UIL District 13-A Literary Meet in Waco on April 13. First-place winners Lloyd Hampe Kenneth Holder Bill Godby Bill Wright Cathy Howard advance to Region II at North Texas State University in Denton.
