Three Automobile Wrecks Reported in Clifton Area

The Texas Highway Patrolman James Wright reported three weekend wrecks near Clifton. Mrs J A Bakke and Mike Smith were injured in a Friday intersection collision. Bakke remained hospitalized with shock and broken ribs while Mike was treated and released. A Sunday crash sent Mrs Donald Johnson’s family to church with no injuries. Sam Lee Huey II wrecked an Austin Healey Sprite at Crossroads and was taken to Gatesville hospital after cutting his eye.

Clifton High Boys Win District 13-A Golf Meet

Clifton High School wins District 13-A golf at Lake Waco with a team score of 339. G. Wilson Collins leads with 75, while teammates Grimland 82 Outlaw 88 and Coffman 94 push Clifton past Alvarado 440 and Glen Rose 460. Collins and Grimland earn medals. four players qualify for regional at NTSU on April 22 with Little as alternate.

Goldthwaite Dominates Clifton Cub Relays Crowns

Goldthwaite High School edged Keller 106 to 59 to win the Clifton High School Cub Relays held last Saturday. Marble Falls star Roy Myers earned high point honors with 32 of his team’s 51½, as five new event records were set including the 440-yard relay and 220-yard dash. Goldthwaite and Bangs paced the field with multiple firsts and state meet prospects noted by coach Aubrey Roberts.

Clifton Names Eldon J Forbess Chief of Police

Eldon J Forbess of Laguna Park has been hired by the Clifton City Council to serve as Chief of Police. He retired from the United States Air Force Military Police after 12 years in that corps and 21 years in the Air Force, yesterday at James Connally AFB in Waco. The Forbess family moved from Laguna Park to Clifton area in 1962 and plans to relocate into Clifton soon, succeeding the recently resigned Clinton W Dodd.

Clifton Garbage Truck Breaks Down Repaired This Week

Mayor Charles M. Isenhower told the Record Office that Clifton’s garbage truck broke down Tuesday afternoon and is under repair, leaving other trucks to haul waste but unable to meet the special truck schedule. Residents urged to be patient until the issue is fixed.

Mrs. Lillian O Bryan Reid of El Paso, daughter of J. C. O Bryan who started The Clifton Record in 1896, visits Clifton with her son Dr. Robert Lynn Reid professor at Baylor University. The pair plan to go to Waco after the visit and discuss family newspaper ties and local publishing history.

CHS Cubs Set For District Track Meet at Waco

Clifton High School will compete in the University Interscholastic League District 13-A Track Meet Thursday at Paul Tyson Stadium in Waco. Coach Aubrey Roberts lists Clifton entrants across sprints, distance events, relays, jumps, and throws, with Joshua High and Glen Rose favored to win.

Clifton Girls Shine in McGregor Invitational Twirl Contest

Clifton High School girls competed in senior and junior divisions at McGregor High School gym on Saturday April 2. Senior entrants included Kathy Collins Vicky Outlaw Ann Claire Pierson Peggy Berry and Anita Wallace while junior entrants were Ann Ludtke Janet Holder Bonnie June Standefer Marsha Hill and Kim Outlaw. A high school trio of Vicky Outlaw Marsha Hill and Janet Holder earned a first division rating.

Municipal League Meeting Set in Clifton Tonight

About 150 people are expected in Clifton Thursday night for Region IX Texas Municipal League biennial meeting at 7:30 in the First Methodist Educational Building. Ladies will serve supper before the business session. Guest speaker is State Senator J. P. Ward of Meridian. Mayor Charles M. Isenhower is a Region IX director.

CHS junior class officers and steering committee members are pictured. Kenneth Holder leads as president with Charlotte Turner as treasurer, Vicki Gandy reporter, Join Poe vice president, Billie Gibbs secretary. Banquet is set in the school cafeteria at 6 30 p m followed by the prom at 8 15 p m in the National Guard Armory.

At a Tuesday noon meeting in City Hall dining room Clifton Lions elected T. F. Cranfills Gap elects two trustees in school vote

Results show C. E. Stevens 26 and June Blum 22 did not win. Gene M. Knudson 24 and L. E. Orbeck 38 were the contenders. Voters chose Stevens and Orbeck as the two trustees.
