Clifton bandsmen depart to compete in a state event amid pride from instructors and townsfolk. The marching group, described as among the finest in the region, will perform in uniform before a large crowd, with supporters forecasting strong showing at the contest.
Mrs Syver Anderson celebrated her 91st birthday on March 27 with relatives and friends visiting at her home. Guests included Mr and Mrs Bile Anderton and many Anderson relatives who brought treats, and the afternoon was spent visiting in a pleasant room.
A National Defense Training program in Woodworking taught by John A. Wester will complete ten weeks of training Friday evening, April 13. Sixteen men enrolled have built a two room house, two brooders, self feeders, ladders, and tool boxes. By popular request another course begins Monday, April 15. The course includes welding, metal work, soldering, and machine work, with a certificate awarded.
Carl M Burley aged 93 died at his Clifton area home shortly after four Sunday afternoon. He was a longtime resident of the Clifton community and had lived in the region for many decades. Survived by wife Martha and numerous children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, the Burleys were noted for their devout Christian life. Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church with local ministers officiating. The couple married July 7, 1881, and celebrated their sixtieth anniversary before Mrs Burley’s passing two weeks later.
Aides of Rep WR Pass said the War Department awarded the base hospital project at Temple, Texas and Camp Hood at Killeen. Contracts went to American Construction Company of Houston for hospital work and Clarkson-Pelet-Geran and Rady of Fort Worth for architectural engineering. Subcontractor names were not disclosed.

Mrs Neal H Brynie born Cleo Maddox in Keller Texas June 12 1915 died Friday after childbirth in Mineral Wells Texas Funeral services were held at Norse Lutheran Church Easter Sunday with interment in Norse cemetery. She leaves husband Neal H Brynie two children Neal Curtis and Olive Ruth and her parents Mr and Mrs T C Maddox of Fort Worth. Brothers and sisters, including Lester and twin sisters Billie Jo and Bettie June, mourn her sudden loss.
Mrs Bruce Barton a long time resident, death occurred at an Austin state hospital on April 8. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Baptist Church, with Rev Gerald Trustell officiating. interment in Clinton cemetery. Survived by husband, two sons, one daughter, and other relatives. A longer notice will follow.
The Fourth Registration will be held Monday April 27 1042 from 7 to 9 p m for men who are 45 years old on or before February 1 1042 and have not yet reached their sixth birthday since registration. Voting doors will be opened at two places for eligible residents to register and obtain a license.
Mrs. Elbert Helton reports a clipping from Cal B. L. Eubank noting Capt. Elbert Helton now commanding a squadron in Australia. The dispatch recalls Maj. Stanley Robinson and Helton as daring in a 26 mile night raid near a target to confuse defenses and aid the next bomber. He has been decorated with the Flying Cross.
Mrs Marshall Hayes died in Austin Monday after a prolonged illness and was buried in Clifton Wednesday. She was born 1896 in Clifton to Neal and Julia Nelson, married Marshall Hayes in June 1920, and survived by three children William Nolan Mary Ella and Hose Jane. Her mother, twin brother, sister and three aunts also mourn her.
