Mrs Tom Pool Honored On Her 90th Birthday
Mrs Dick Torrence hosted an open house on Sunday March 30 from 2 to 5 to honor Mrs Tom M Pool on her 90th birthday. Attendees from Valley Mills included Dick Torrence John Williams Will C Pool and Py of Valley Mills. Guests admired white lilies iris and a large bouquet of white iris on the dining room table. Howard presided over the program Hugh Comba directed the musical offerings and the meal featured white linen and candlelight.

Clifton Wins Five First Places In Tennis Meet
Clifton High School led Class A schools in a two day tennis meet on March 25 and 29, winning five of eight events. Senior Girl’s Singles Erna Pearl Bronstad and Wiseman T Holder claimed county championships after a tough run of matches. The squad’s results included multiple second places in boys and girls divisions across grammar and junior levels, with upcoming district play slated for April 4 in Waco.

In county commissioner issue No 4 Clifton Valley Mills and Molheim area residents will vote next Saturday April 6 for County School Trustee Sanford Foot of Valley Mills aims to succeed Aimwell and Dr Shipp of Centallis Gap is named as opponent. The following Saturday April 12 the Cooper School district proposition adds Clifton dependent district by vote of property owners. Citizens urged to vote in these important school district matters.

The HD Council met at Meridian Courthouse on Monday March 1 at 2 PM. 28 club women attended as America was sung. Clubs offered suggestions for the year and the Educational Fund was fully paid. A Recreation and Educational Committee operated. The county fair Indies exhibit to be held at night featuring handmade quilts bedspreads and related items. U D girls to select three articles. Mattress committee to operate weekly in CHD agent’s office for expenses. A motion allowed library books to move between councils.

Joe Thompson Aged Clifton Citizen Buried in Waco
Joe Thompson born 1862 died Tuesday April 1 in a Waco aged and dependent home after three years there. His body was brought to Clifton for burial in the local cemetery with services at the Clifton Mercantile Company Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Gerald Brussell. He never married and lived in Clifton most of his life. He is survived by two sisters and several nieces and nephews. interment beside his deceased brother in the local lot.

4-H Club Work In County Under Way
Boeque county 4-H Club boys are well under way in their 1941 work, with 75 boys in various schools. They conduct livestock feed demonstrations, totaling 58 pigs, 18 calves, 39 lambs, and 176 head of poultry. Field crops cover 11 acres of corn and five acres of cotton. New hybrid corn from the Texas Experiment Station is planted by several boys, expected to yield more per acre. Names include Floyd Landgraf, Pred Arthur, Wendell Wallace, Carroll Knudson, and John Nichols. Boys study feeder cattle selection, dairy cattle, and cattle and sheep types and breeds.

Funeral services were held for Charlie Marnel 1 of Gateville State Training School who died in a Waco hospital. Born in Georgia, he worked at Gateville dining school for boys and had lived in Valley Mills many years. Survived by widow, three sons, father, sister, brother and half siblings.

Trades Day discussion and plans for Clifton Lions
The Clifton Lions held a Trades Day meeting with about 8 members attending a meal prepared by Trinity Lutheran Church ladies. They discussed a WPA Garden Project and cannery, voting to sponsor and fund meals to ensure school lunches amid rising food costs. Tailtwinter Trottar faced charges and fines during the meeting, while overall morale remained high and two more meetings remain to boost attendance.
