In Chicago a city council session ended in a public brawl over control of the chair. Two rival aldermen fought as a clerk tore up a party line resolution, officers intervened, and a crepe memorial of Mayor Harrison was trampled amid the chaos. The body, nearly evenly split between Republicans and Democrats, barred entry to all.

Bomb Throws Kill Fifteen At Barcelona Lyceum Firework

A Wednesday Barcelona special reports that during William Tell at the Lyceum a dynamite-laden bomb was thrown from the gallery. Fifteen bodies are recovered, six men and nine women, many killed in the blast. Officials detained suspects, including two well-known anarchists, as investigators sorted out the tragedy.

Tobacco men protest tax rise at Washington convention

The Tobacco Manufacturers Association of the United States met in Washington on Wednesday to oppose an increased tax on manufactured tobacco. Southern and western manufacturers attended and adopted resolutions calling for repeal of the 1890 revenue laws to permit leaf tobacco sales to consumers tax-free. A committee of ten was appointed to confer with the still-committee on Ways and Means.
