In a storm near Toler's ranch by Waterville Washington a number of residents heard a human voice crying for help. A search party scoured the area but found nothing and assumed a person perished in the snow. Days later the crying was heard again and revealed to be a creaking windmill.

The Check System in English Restaurants

In English restaurants the customer pays through the waiter who bears responsibility for payment once orders reach him. The waiter deposits $10 to $25 with the proprietor at start and receives checks equal to order value. If orders exceed deposit he pays more. the customer pays at settling time and the waiter bears losses if the customer leaves without paying. Kitchen porters can impede the waiter by delaying dish delivery.
