A Pittsburg traveling salesman tricked Dimeling hotel staff by placing a wax bust in his bed. When a cleaning woman touched the figure she cried out in alarm, thinking a real person was there. The room was occupied by male staff who then revealed the joke and calming laughter followed. The incident ends with a nudge to try classified ads in the Progress.

Two fires of seemingly set origin destroyed property at Derby near Philipsburg early Wednesday. The large bank barn of F. W. Schultz burned with its contents at Derby followed by the complete destruction of Caleb Long’s mine tipple and dump nearby. Authorities suspect arson.

Paul G Morgan dies at 22 in Lock Haven home
Paul G Morgan died Tuesday at 7 45 in his Lock Haven residence. He was 22 years six months old and survived by his wife and three children Katharine Paul Jr and Adrian. A Clearfield county native he served in the navy during the Spanish American War, aide to Dewey at Manila Bay on May 1 1898, and later worked as a clerk at the Fallon House in Lock Haven.

Will Be Paroled After Board Hearing at Clearfield County
The board of parole on Wednesday recommended parole for three Clearfield county prisoners at Western penitentiary. Henry Hiney faced larceny charges. John Benson was convicted of burglary and intent to kill. George Schreckengost, convicted of murder in the second degree for the December 1908 Du Bois killing of his wife, had previously shot himself and served five of sixteen years, with five already served.
