Plans Set For Farm Silver Field Day With Dinner

Page County Soil Conservation Experimental Farm marks its Silver Anniversary Field Day with a noon barbecued spring chicken dinner. The program includes a forage harvesting demo, DDT granule demonstrations, wagon tours, and exhibits on tillage, equipment, weather data, and small grain varieties. Extension staff and-area agronomists coordinate with Clarinda and Shenandoah Chamber groups. farm is 10 miles west of Clarinda or 8 miles east of Shenandoah on Highway 2.

Recreation Center Offers Instruction Exhibition Games

Clarinda Recreation Program will host free evening instruction in croquet shuffleboard badminton horseshoes and volleyball at Fairgrounds Park center Wednesday through Friday this week. Last Rites Monday for William E Davis 59

Funeral services were held in Shenandoah for William E Davis 59 a Page County farmer who died after a heart attack at Hand Hospital. Davis directed the Page County Farm Supply Co and earlier managed its seed corn division. He lived in Page County all his life except ten years in West Des Moines. He served in World War I and was on Gov Hoegh drouth advisory committee. Survived by his wife Espr a daughter Gene Vaean Nesiith of Omaha his mother Mrs Caroline Davis three sisters and a brother. Honorary pallbearers included several veterans and community groups. Funeral was at Hackett Home.

Dairy Queen of Page County Crowned in Shenandoah

Miss Birdice Clark of Clarinda was named Page County Dairy Queen at a Shenandoah Armory ceremony. Marlene Zanders of Emerson and Mahala Brown of Farragut were named Mills and Fremont County Dairy Queens respectively, with Clark set to compete for the Iowa Dairy Queen title at Waverly. Clark is a Clarinda Junior College sophomore and daughter of Mr and Mrs Lee Clark.

Free Red Cross swimming lessons enroll over 600 at Legion pool

Enrollment for free Red Cross swimming and life saving lessons at the American Legion pool reached over 600 with expectations to top 650. The program, chaired by Herb Owen, draws a rural turnout with 300 beginners and 35 in junior and senior life saving classes. Classes run four weeks, mornings, Monday through Friday, with Lions financing a bus from College Springs to bring 80 to 100 students twice weekly.

Rollie Livingston announced the program for the Clarinda Lions Southwest Town Beauty Pageant to be held Thursday at 8 pm in the Clarinda Theatre. Ten contestants will perform in evening gown, talent, and bathing suit, with judges selecting a winner who earns a two-year Clarinda Junior College scholarship and an all expenses paid trip to Clear Lake for Miss Iowa pageant.
