A contract for cloud seeding at two cents an acre was signed between IAMO Weather Modification Association and Water Resources Development Co of Denver for eight counties in Iowa and Missouri. Page County raises $12,152 to fund half the first year, with Holt County possibly joining to reduce the rate. Generators will be placed across Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri to trigger rainfall with a claimed 40 percent rainfall increase.

Woman and Namesake Reunite After 29 Years Separated
Mrs Leona Wagoner Freudenburg of Rt 1 and her namesake Mrs Leona Burd Butts of Chambersburg PA met again after 29 years apart. The Burd and Wagoner families lived nearby. A baby girl born at the Burd home was named for the 9 year old neighbor. Mrs Butts and her daughter Donna were visiting relatives in Knoxville and Shenandoah and arranged to see the girl she had not seen since she was four.

Ronald M Sehurr of Hastings charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated on Washington St in Clarinda after a report. He waived prelim and is held on $500 bond. Boy Burned In Basement Fire At 700 N 14th St
Grover Stipe a 12 year old son of Mr and Mrs Vern Stipe sustained second degree burns over a large portion of his body in a Thursday basement accident when denatured alcohol ignited his clothing. Fire officials suspect a gas hot water heater contributed to the flare up. His condition was listed as critical with severe shock. His mother Mrs Stipe and two sisters received minor burns while trying to smother the flames. Blood donors were sought with six transfusions given by Monday.
