The Michigan Artrain will stop in Clare for a 4 to 5 day stay with free public access. Local groups pledge funds and planning continues at a Kellogg Center workshop at MSU East Lansing to cover electric and heat costs estimated between $2000 and $3000.
Farwell School District voters head to the polls on October 25 for a fourth millage vote this year. Two millage requests, 11 and 1 mills for one year, back a six hour day, full staff, and upgraded textbooks, with board candidates also on the ballot.
The Clare Sentinel and Clare Chamber of Commerce selected winners from hundreds of Bicentennial coupons. Recipients include Ruth Heim for a 16 inch portable TV, Carolyn Craft for a 9 inch portable TV, B McFarland for a continuous cleaning oven broiler, Fannie Yeeman for an AM FM clock radio, and Palshans for an Am FM TV sound portable radio, with prizes from local merchants.
Clare enrollment remains strong with 1,850 projected vs 1,830. Farwell transfers total 39 students from 21 families, while 83 from other districts and 16 from out of state enroll. High school and 8th grade stay solid, but Primary and Middle schools decline.
Clare Gladwin Intermediate voters rejected a 1.5 millage for a vocational center by 2080 no to 877 yes, a 70 to 36 percent margin. None of the five districts—Clare Farwell Harrison Beaverton Gladwin—supported the measure. Vote breakdown shows Clare 404 no 233 yes, Farwell 456 no 252 yes, Harrison 614 no 138 yes, Beaverton 236 no 197 yes, Gladwin 3860 no 117 yes.
