You Are Self Employed If You Farm On Shares
William E. LaRock explains social security rules for share farmers. A share-farmer acts as a self employed farmer when they produce a crop or livestock on another’s land under a percentage or shared-proceeds arrangement. Even if the landowner harvests or handles sales, the share-farmer’s duty to farm during the growing season keeps them self employed. If both partners share in profits and losses, both are self employed farmers. future articles will discuss farm partnerships.
