State department adds new question for 1936 license plates
The Michigan Department of State will ask applicants for 1936 license plates when their operator licenses expire. Director Louis Morony says the query is a reminder tool, not a licensing condition, endorsed by the Michigan Safety and Traffic Directors Association. About 200,000 vehicles remain unlicensed, and officials expect many to be forgetful rather than delinquent.
