Clare County Probate Judge Quits and Recommends New System
Alexander Strange II, Clare County Probate Judge, resigns effective October 1 citing financial concerns and a belief the role should be full time. A visiting Probate Judge, likely George Johnson from Gladwin County, will handle duties. Johnson could receive about $100. This leaves a vacancy many say no one wants to fill.

Clare School Facilities Plan Advances with New Building Proposal
At the Clare Board of Education meeting on September 8 the board accepted the Clare Citizens Committee on School Facilities plan for a new K through 4 elementary building on the current property and to renovate the existing building for intermediate grades. The plan estimates a cost near two million dollars funded by a bond issue around 6.5 mills and includes site options with three locations considered, favoring the lot adjacent to relocatable classrooms pending soil analysis. The board also discussed traffic safety around schools, student programs with Mid-Michigan Community College, a 9 percent noninstructional salary increase, and set the 1970 baccalaureate for June 7 and graduation for June 12.
