Eighty five Republican leaders from Clare county gathered at the Hotel Doherty Friday for a noon luncheon to meet Governor candidate Kim Sigler and discuss campaign strategy ahead of the November election. Roy O. Woodruff spoke in support of Sigler and introduced him. Sigler outlined his aim to visit every county, praised Michigan’s industries, and pledged to fight graft in government. He answered questions and outlined his upcoming stops in Mt. Pleasant and Harrison.

Council hires John Goggin as city engineer
John P. Goggin, a registered civil engineer with twenty six years of municipal and general civil experience, will oversee surveying and engineering for city sewers water mains streets curbs gutters and sidewalks. Clare Michigan Frank Foss 86 a Clare resident for twelve years died Monday night at Clare Hospital after several weeks illness He was born July 20 1867 in Poole Canada to Theodore and Pauline Foss He married Margaret Calvert in 1891 and worked as a baker in Essex St Johns Michigan and Saginaw before moving to Clare in 1934 He leaves wife Margaret two sons Calvin of Saginaw and Harry L Foss of Clare a daughter Eva at home a late daughter Hazel 1918 two grandchildren four siblings and many relatives Funeral was Thursday at Thurston Funeral Home at 2 pm Rev Earl Redman officiated and burial was in Cherry Grove Cemetery.

The Clare County Fair will open next Wednesday after war suspension. Improvements include a 40 by 60 foot Quonset exhibition building and a 20 by 60 foot stage with new sound equipment.
