Five area women joined the annual American Cancer Society Michigan Division meeting. Attendees included Mrs. Helen Heintz and others from Harrison and Clare, with a panel of four physicians presenting new cancer research findings. Mrs. Maynard Maybee received a 25 year award. A cedar solar boat linked to Cheops showed no decay after 5,000 years.

Road commission seeks widening of US 10 in Clare County
Clare County Road Commission superintendent Dale Brandon asks the Michigan State Police to back a request to the State Highway Department to widen US 10 between Clare and M-115 west of Farwell. He urges widening from 20 to 24 feet due to heavy traffic and frequent accidents as maintenance and paving repair are planned. Brandon plans to back the request with letters from community members as contracts near.
