Improvements For Waterfowl Hunters In Michigan
The Conservation Department funds earthworks to aid waterfowl during the 1964 season. A 2 200 acre flooded area in Dead Stream Swamp near Houghton Lake is being expanded with nearly seven miles of ditches creating 300 new potholes and nesting islands. About four miles north of M 55 and one mile west of new US 27, 150 potholes are blasted and five small islands cleared to improve nesting conditions.

Lamprey control planned for Muskegon River area
U S Bureau of Commercial Fisheries will treat the lower Muskegon River from Newaygo Dam to Muskegon Lake with lamprey larvae killer in October. The project aims to protect Lake Michigan trout by eradicating sea lamprey, though some fish losses are possible in southern Michigan streams. Conservation staff will monitor the Muskegon and restock if needed.
