Michigan Supreme Court Ends Fetters Wittmer Lease Dispute
The Michigan Supreme Court upheld the Wittmer Oil and Gas Properties lease to Mary Fetters, denying an amended decree and affirming prior rulings that scrutinize top leases. The decision impacts Mt. Pleasant area leasing, discouraging further top leasing and related litigation. The case traces back to 1929 when Fetters leased land in Vernon township and later faced a top lease dispute with Edmund Johnston of Saginaw.
