One hundred guests attended the Clare Country Club banquet marking the golfers annual meeting. Tim Cotter chaired as toastmaster and Mrs Sam Garfield distributed women's prizes while Mrs Albert Haley contributed the handicap trophy. Men and women’s prize winners included Jack Mance and Leo Hampton with multiple flight honors. Officers for next year were elected at the women’s club session led by President Mrs A J Doherty and Sports Chairman Mrs Norris Elden.

Governor Sigler plans a campaign rally in Mt. Pleasant on Monday October 4 before 2000 attendees. A 6:00 banquet precedes the event hosted by the Mt. Pleasant Rotary Club with local civic clubs represented. Dr. Charles L. Anspach will tour Central Michigan College of Education for dignitaries.

Firemen Called to Forest and Muck Fires Near Clare
The Clare Fire Department answered a silent alarm last Friday at 9 90 o clock to Duff Hebert Tourist Camp nine miles north of Clare on US 27 where rubbish blaze ran into woods. Firefighters extinguished it with no property loss. Over the weekend local crews pumped about 1000 gallons onto a muck fire burning for weeks at the rear of the Howard Everts home on East Fourth Street.

Brothers fined for deer hunting at night in Surrey township
Lloyd Allbee and Jolly Allbee, both charged with carrying firearms after sunset, pleaded guilty in Farwell. Each was fined 50 dollars plus 6.85 dollars costs after officers spotted them driving with lights on along an old trail road in deer country.

New Grandstand Dedication At Clare High School Field
Clare High School dedicated a new 700 seat concrete grandstand at the athletic field during Friday night football activities. The project cost 4800 with funds from the board of education, class of 1945, Clare Manufacturing Co, Kiwanis Club season tickets, and gifts. The event featured a public address system from Magonic Lodge and a PTA flag presentation plus new band uniforms. The dedication was led by Earl Ruby with musical portions by the school band.

James Elliott Passes Away at Sheridan Home
James Marion Hilcott born September 12 1868 in Quas Queeton Iowa died September 23 1948 at his Sheridan township home aged eighty years eleven days. He moved to Michigan with his parents as a child living at Pierport and Elberta later buying a farm in Sheridan township where he remained working at carpentry. He leaves wife and three children Russel of Harbor Springs Meda Severson of Flint Max at home. one son Robert a WWI veteran preceded him in death. Funeral held at Thurston Funeral Home 2:00 Sunday with Rev Wm P D Powe. interment Lodmis cemetery. Doris Tice sang Rock of Ages and Jesus Savior Pilot Me with piano by Leonard Smith.
