Since 1933 they built 10 500 miles of fences and created 1 622 wells 4 218 springs and 2 629 small reservoirs while controlling pests on 12 885 000 acres and eradicating poisonous plants on 98 661 acres. They spent 108 187 man days fighting forest fires and erected 6 900 miles of telephone lines with 84 lookout towers. Training yielded skills from truck driving to cement work, with 87 occupational trades in the program. Indian enrollees live at home on their reservations and work in small units, not in large CCC camps.
