U.S. debt rises in October by 265 million
The treasury reports a rise of more than 265 million dollars in the public debt for October. By October 31 the gross debt was 23 077 000 000, up from 22 812 000 000 at September 30 and down from 23 459 600 000 a year earlier. Officials attribute the increase to government securities issued in October, notably a half billion dollar bond issue, while saying it does not impede quarterly debt reductions.
