Civil Defense Emerges As Alaska War Against Nature

After the Good Friday earthquake and tidal waves, Alaska’s Civil Defense expands from a skeleton eight member staff to coordinate relief with the armed forces Red Cross Salvation Army YMCA and local governments. The agency handles casualty lists warnings broadcasts relief logistics and emergency power and water supplies. Lt General Reeves and Governor Egan praise Civil Defense for centralizing requests and aiding recovery efforts.

Rural visitors travel between Lake Odessa and Flint area

Rural residents Mrs Bill Randle and family along with Mrs Ray Strouse and others visited Rev Dean Vanderveen and family at Lake Odessa from Friday to Saturday. They attended an all night hymn sing in Kalamazoo Friday evening. Saturday guests included Mr and Mrs Herman Sparks and Terry Nezarit Chuck from Flint and Mr and Mrs Charles Eschenweck from Ewart. Friday Bible Study occurred at the Kister home.
