County Board Drops Vehicle Licenses Program
The Clare County Board of Commissioners voted to stop issuing drivers licenses effective June 1 citing rising requests and cost. Sheriff Ray Lippold said it would require hiring extra staff, but state officials may supply a man to run the county license office. The board also adopted an amended sanitation code and discussed air conditioning for the county office with bids from Peyton Refrigeration contingent on a bond or manufacturer guarantee.

Lance Corporal Clifford E. Jesse 20 formerly of Harrison, killed in Vietnam May 8 with the 1st Marine Division near Da Nang. Drafted last year, he had served since November. He leaves his parents Mr. and Mrs. Earl Jesse and Mrs. Lucinda Jesse, one brother, grandparents in Harrison and nearby areas. Funeral with military honors set for May 20 at Zion Lutheran Church, Saginaw.
