Water Safety Slogan Contest for Isabella County Youth
Isabella County youth from first through eighth grade are invited to enter a Water Safety Slogan Contest. Entries must include slogan plus name address and grade on a postal card and be sent to Daily Times News or WCEN by May 26 1961. Prizes include a badminton set life jacket and cash awards.

The European corn borer affects many plants but favors corn. In 1949 losses reached 314 million bushels. First detected in Massachusetts around 1917, it now spans the eastern states. The pest tunnels and feeds inside stalks ears and other plant parts, with life stages from eggs to moths from June to September. Parasite biocontrol and resistant varieties help, while Sevin insecticide, introduced in 1960, offers broad control for both field and sweet corn.
