W J Somerville vice president of The Gas Corporation of Michigan announced a contract with American Michigan Pipe Line Company for two billion feet of gas to serve Mt Pleasant and Clare. The Gulf Field east of Clare supplies the reserve with potential for an extra billion feet if needed. The move aims to secure gas for local consumers and support future supplies while continuing efforts to develop new sources.

Harrison Lad Dies in Sand Bank Cave-In
In Clare County a twelve year old, J Elliot Krehmar of Harrison, was killed in a sand bank cave-in in Redding township while playing with two cousins. The boy attended Hayes Agricultural Unit school and died of suffocation. sheriff and coroner ruled accidental death. He is survived by his parents, an older brother Frank, and a sister, as his father recovered from heart surgery.

Five Injured in Late-Night Auto Crash at Lehr Station
Percy Allen, his wife and three children from Vernon township were injured when their car collided with a vehicle driven by Donald Dalton near Lehr gas station on East 4th Street. Mrs Allen required seven stitches for a head cut. two sons had minor facial cuts. daughter sustained facial and hand scratches. Percy Allen and Dalton had only minor bruises. Both cars were heavily damaged.

Death of Lewis W. Sunday at Hastings Home
Clare mourns Lewis W. Sunday 69 who died of heart disease at his Hastings home. A longtime Windstorm Co. president and former Clare resident since 1894, his funeral was held at Hastings First Methodist and Clare Congregational churches. A fuller obituary will run next week.
